Ketogenic Diet

First thing I should say about this particular diet is: If you are trying to lose weight, you cannot “cheat” on this diet plan.

Second thing, FAT is your friend! Carbs & Sugar are the devil here. Get behind me Satan!

Third thing, you can have all the fat just extremely limited carbs and no sugars. Welcome to erythritol.

Husband and I primarily live by the ketogenic lifestyle.

What is the Ketogenic Diet? A diet that is high-fat, adequate-protein, very low-carbohydrate that helps you to lose weight quickly! This diet forces the body to burn fats rather than carbohydrates.

How does the Ketogenic Diet work? To ask this question lets look at how the body generates fuel when eating a non-keto diet. The body uses three main nutrients to function: carbohydrates, protein and fat. These nutrients are digested into simpler compounds. Sugar is a soluble carbohydrate, so the body processes carbohydrates and sugars first. The body will store these and use them for energy. Just as we like these foods most, your body likes to burn them first. Removing these sources of fuel from your body forces your body to dip into fat burning mode- ketosis. The only thing left to burn to provide you energy is FAT! YES, can I get an Amen? Basically the Ketogenic diet works because you remove the consumption of the body’s first choice to generate energy (Carbs & Sugars) and force your body to dip into using fat to burn fat to fuel your bodies energy. It took me a long time to re-train my mind that FAT was actually good for me. It may take some time for you too. We have been conditioned to believe we need Low-fat, Non-fat everything and that simply isn’t the case.

What is Ketosis? Ketosis is a process that happens when your body doesn’t have enough carbohydrates/ sugars (because sugar turns to carbs) to burn for energy. Your body burns fat and makes things called ketones, which it uses for fuel. (AKA: You have made it to your FAT burning zone)

Do you want to lose weight quickly?

Are you willing to sacrifice something to get where you want?

How bad do you want it?

Are you willing to educate yourself a little to find change?

Does this seem too complicated? When my husband came home and suggested we try this diet my first reaction was NO! It seemed too difficult and almost always my first reaction is to disagree with anything that seems difficult. I’m so thankful I gave it a shot. How did I start? We sat down and watched a documentary on Netflix, The Magic Pill, which changed my mind and I was ready to start.

I recommend you watch this to educate yourself

I strongly suggest you educate yourself at least a little bit and then just start. When I started I got the Keto-flu. It sucked! It didn’t last forever. I had 3 really bad long days. My body was detoxing from the legal drug- sugar. The weeks that followed were so worth it! I had so much energy, I didn’t need as much sleep, I had mental clarity and felt great. I became sad for all the people who just feel bad, feel terrible, tired, and clouded all the time. I want you to know if you have enough self control to power through a little hard time, the light at the end of the tunnel is amazing and I want everyone to feel this way. I learned on my journey. My husband would see me eating something and say, you know that’s not Keto.. Well, Shift! Control, Alt, Delete that from my consumption. I am still learning. I follow Keto Sunday-Friday. I am on a maintaining basis now and can do “lazy keto.” I recommend you just start! Make the shifts as they come. BUT DON’T CHEAT! You cannot consume high fat, high carbs and lose weight.

1 Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation has overtaken your but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.”
